EWSD School Board Candidate Forum (City of Essex Junction seat)
Q and A with the Essex Reporter
ESSEX JUNCTION — One seat on the Essex Westford School District board representing Essex Junction is being contested by three candidates this Tuesday, April 8.
Incumbent Marlon Verasamy faces a challenge from Gregory Fleishman and Ernest Heimsath.
Ahead of the vote, the Reporter asked each candidate the same four questions. Verasamy's responses may have been lightly edited for length and for clarity.
Q: Why are you running for re-election?
A: I'm running for re-election to continue the work that we have on the board the last few years. We are in unprecedented times when it comes to education in Vermont. With an unsustainable funding model and more and more pressures from the state level, the board has had to make tough choices to ensure that we can continue to deliver a high quality education to our students while keeping it affordable for our community. I'm hoping to be re-elected to help EWSD not just meet the challenges to come, but excel so we can offer the best outcomes for our students.
